Roses give off one of the most aromatic fragrances in the flower world, so not only are they beautiful, aromatic, romantic and in addition they grow annual blooms, but they are quite easy to take care and you can train them to go where you want them.
Best planting zone for roses: 7,8,9 (can be grown in other zones if special care is taken)
Soil: Roses will grow in any well drained fertilized soil.
Sun: Plant roses where they will get at least 6 hours of sunlight a day. Roses will grow in shady areas but you may not get as many roses as you would in full sun.
Wind: Plant roses where wind is less likely to blow the petals off.
Use fertilizer for better blooms and stronger plants.
Training Roses: Cut your roses back in the fall and make sure you cover them during the winter and if you want to train them to go up a trellis, just gently tie them to the trellis where you want them to be. Using a good fertilizer for roses will give your rose bushes the jump start they need.
"Consider the type and variety of rose that you are planting as roses grow in all shapes and sizes. Make sure to allow enough room for the rose to grow without becoming over crowded, including the root systems. Remember whatever grows above the soil is mirrored below the soil in the root growth (just like a tree)" Treloar Roses. (2019). See our featured video below for more great tips for growing roses.
