Clothing That Keeps You Cool In The Summer
You can stay cooler in the summer by wearing light colored, breathable clothing which allows heat and sweat from your skin to evaporate, such as, cotton, linen, and silk. Some clothing materials such as polyester and polyester blends trap your body heat which makes you warmer. Dark colors and tight fitting clothing attract and hold heat close to your body which makes you feel warmer than white and light colored clothing which actually reflect light and heat so you stay cooler. When you are outdoors you want to cover as much of your skin as possible to prevent sun damage. The bottom line is loose fitting, light, light weight, flowing garments will keep you cooler. For women, long dresses will keep you cooler than pants or even loose fitting slacks.
Hats: "Wear a well-vented, wide-brimmed hat (at least 7.5 cm width) to protect your face, head, neck and ears from the sun (also keeps you cooler). Peaked caps do not provide adequate sun protection as only the nose and forehead get protection. They also do not allow much heat loss from the head".
Cover your eyes: "Sunglasses should also be worn at all times when outdoors to reduce glare on the eyes" (2019). Sahealth.sa.gov.au.
